You finally bought that art print you've been looking and looking forward to showing off to visitors and friends, but before you start to hang on the wall, you can you want to spend a minute or two to consider how these prints were made. This work of art that you bought is certainly not the original. This is a reproduction print from the original artwork. Art prints are created using different printing processes, and may have come across these different terms as they are making inquiries and purchases for printing. Before making your purchase, it would be useful to know the printing process which made the art print. A Below is a brief description of some of the more common printing methods for art prints:
Print Print
pronounced zhee-clay, is a French word that means a spray or jet of liquid. The name is descriptive of the manner in which the impression is created. A giclee is basically a fingerprint of the original artwork, created from digital scans of the original.
Once the analysis is made and the digital image file, a sophisticated printer then makes a high-resolution printing with high quality inks. The printer does this using a thin stream ink resulting in vivid colors, exceptional detail cigars. A giclee can be printed in various sizes and in various media as canvas and photo paper.
An advantage of giclee printing is the high level of accuracy and richness of color. Another advantage is that it allows artists to make easy reprints of their work to be sold as and when necessary, or in bulk. It also avoids the anguish of the original painting sale.
Lithography
A lithograph works on the principle that oil and water do not mix. A hand-made lithograph is a print made by drawing with an oily substance, such as crayons pencils and porous stone or metal plates. An oil-based ink is then applied to the moistened stone that adheres only to the lines drawn. The plates are pressed on a sheet of paper to produce the final print.
Serigraph
Screenprinting, or serigraphy, etching process is a template high quality paper which is placed beneath a screen (or template). The ink is then applied on the screen using a squeegee. The screen has certain portions cut to the ink can be transferred on the paper below. This process was repeated for different screens and color until the final image is complete. Screenprinting can be used in a variety of surfaces such as textiles, ceramics, metal, wood and paper and is commonly used in the apparel industry for product labeling.
Monoprint
A monoprint or monotype is a printing process whereby the artist paints a picture of a plate with a low ink drying. The image is printed before dry ink. A characteristic of monoprints, as the term "monkey" which implies that only a single print can be done through this process. That is, no two tracks never be the same.
Transfer on canvas
A canvas transfer is a process of transferring a a work of art on canvas printing. A special chemical is applied on the plate, which when dried, can be separated from the paper and transferred to a canvas. The canvas is then stretched over a frame and an artist then apply brushstrokes to create the texture found in the original artwork. The end result is a work of art on the canvas that resembles the original.
Enjoy the art!
