How to play a piece of furniture with stain?
My husband and I are trying to play up to the birthplace of our daughter in our new daughter who is due to end of June. The cradle is made of oak and our first daughter chewed on the railing (the "head" part, not the party that had the plastic cover). She really managed to make it look pretty bad, and we tried to cover, but she always manage to get the cover. The cradle was loaned to us by an aunt and we touching the top and covers for the baby Crib so this never happens again. So far my husband chewed sand with 220 sandpaper points and tried to apply a stain of golden oak, but not only look very good. Any ideas? Thanks We were thinking of putting a baby safety coating material on the spot so there were no problems with the patch making the baby sick ... and were putting some kind of protective railing I saw online on the rails anyway ... just wanted add that reading the first comment!
Allow the stain to dry completely, then use a coarse sandpaper and sand down until its completely smooth. After he got no problems, then move to a fine sandpaper. Then buy a stain that matches, and after the first layer completely Drys see if you need another layer. Also, you may want to consider varnish to keep the baby from being able to put your mouth on the spot. Varnish is a basically a transparent layer that protects the wood, you may want to do it in a garage, because strong odors and make sure that nothing touches the paint, while drying, and I say anything! If it was me I would redo all the crib so it looks nice, compared to just finish the head. But thats just me.
