Although Cancun is known primarily as a luxury tourist destination - home to luxury resorts, scenic beaches and all forms of entertainment - placement ideal of the city, between the rugged and diverse Yucatan Peninsula also has allowed this Caribbean hot spot to serve as one of the most recreation destinations in the world. After gaining popularity as a world-class recreation and ecotourism destination in recent years, the city of Cancun, was granted the prestigious honor of hosting a major 70.3-tour events mile Ironman triathlon. Besides serving as the qualifying event for Ironman World Championship Ironman 70.3 Cancun offers visitors the opportunity to see some of the best athletes in the world with a wonderful natural inspiration. The Ironman 70.3 Cancun competition will be held this year on September 20.

The stretch of 1.2 kilometers of swimming the Ironman 70.3 Cancun occurs in Nizuc Beach, exotic sandy strip situated at the southern end of the Hotel Zone. Although located within walking distance of many of the top resorts in Cancun, Playa Nizuc considered as a destination isolated, as the calm water protected by the southern tip of the peninsula and the beach is surrounded by a lush patch of forest. Both during the event and throughout the year, seawater Beach Nizuc usually tops 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Ironman competitors swim a loop course that is both near shore and marked with buoys, allowing viewers to easily enjoy the race. Although not one of the most popular beaches of Cancun, Nizuc Beach also offers an interesting year round destination for those hoping to experience the natural diversity of the Riviera Maya, without leaving the comfort zone Hotel.

After completing the swim, competitors to move to the bike leg, a 56-mile journey that follows Boulevard Kukulcan through the airport hotel zone of Cancun and Playa del Carmen. In many sections of the course is closed to vehicular traffic during the event, spectators can enjoy front row views of the race near many stations above. After traveling through the hotel zone, the course is on the road bike Cancun-Merida, where viewers can find several more comfortable views, especially near the repair shop and refreshments. The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon closes with 13.1 km career along Kukulcan Boulevard.
