I cut out wooden letters a 1/2inch to 1 inch thick piece of wood, what I saw should I use?

I like to cut wooden letters for name my daughter to put on the wall instead of paying money for pre-cut. Would it be better to use a scroll saw or a jigsaw puzzle? I do not have a garage, so I'm trying to keep that in mind. I think he'll use the wood that is between 1 / 2 inch and 1 inch thick. Thanks
